You must have seen the mention of different branches in the notification of the Air Force, like Administration, Flying, Accounts and many other branches.
Different
vacancies of these branches are released. And the roles and responsibilities of
the people working
in these branches are also different from each other. Let's talk about the
Flying Branch.
Its name can be
used to give an idea of its role. This is the main branch of the Indian Air
Force, whose job is
to fly different aircrafts of the Indian Air Force. The Flying Branch is
further divided into three parts.
Fighter
Branch, Transport Branch and Helicopter Branch. Pilots get one of these
branches, and it is decided during training that which pilot will go in which
branch. The officers of the Flying Branch participate in many peace and wartime
missions.
Candidates can
join the Flying Branch through NDA, CDS and AFCAD. The next branch is the Ground Duty Technical
Branch. In this branch, officers are employed in the Mechanical or Electrical Branch.
In this branch,
officers are in charge of some sophisticated equipment, which ensures that Indian
aircrafts always fly efficiently. Aspirants can join the Technical Branch
through AFCAD exam. Recently, the Indian Air Force has mentioned a new branch in the
notification, which is the Weapon System Branch.
This branch
has been created for unification of all weapon system operators under one
entity. This branch will increase the Air Force's war fighting capability. This
branch will be helpful in the multi-domain warfare era.
Four
sub-streams of this branch, Flying, Remote, Surface and Intelligence have been established.

some Ground Duty Non-Technical Branches.
First is
Administration Branch. The work of Administrative Officers is of daily
management, where they perform all the administrative work of the station, which is
required in a smooth function. Officers are responsible for both
human and material resources.
Some of the
Administration Officers also perform the duties of Air Traffic Controller and
Fighter Controller. To
join the Administrative Branch, candidates have to take selection from AFCAD Entry. Next is Logistics.
Logistics Officers handle the work of required material supply and stock
management. Their job is to ensure availability of all required materials and their
transportation. They ensure efficient supervision of inventories and procurement of various range of
equipment.
To join the Logistics Branch, candidates have to take selection from
AFCAD Entry. Next is Education Branch. The work of the officers of this branch is to manage
all the Air Force Schools, KVs, along with to look after training and development of officers and
airmen.
The officers of the Education Branch also play an important role in
conducting recruitment exams. Next is Accounts Branch. The work of the officers of this branch
is efficient financial management of funds.
Accounts Officers also work as an internal auditor. To join this branch,
candidates can give Aspirance
AFCAT exam. Next is Meteorology.
The officers of this branch are involved in handling the latest satellite
imagery and state of art monitoring equipment. Meteorology Officers also render specific advice
to operators on all aspects of
weather. This was the flying, ground duty technical and ground duty
non-technical branches of
the Indian Air Force.
